Pair of First Class Dining Chairs White Star Liner RMS Celtic.
A Pair of Dining Room Chairs from 1st Class aboard the White Star Liner (Oceanic Steam Navigation Company) RMS Celtic, built by Harland & Wolff in 1901. The ship ran aground off Cork Harbour in 1928 and was a write off being scrapped in situ, these chairs were sold at auction at the time and came from a house in nearby Kinsale.
They are beautifully made with a heavy cast iron base that was originally bolted to the deck, intricate carving front and back and numbered 156 and 98 respectively. Very sound and solid condition, original upholstery which could be over.covered with loose covers to retain originality. Would make lovely office or bureau chairs.
Rare and fascinating bit of maritime history from the days of the great transatlantic liners.
